Teen Reads for Black History Month

World War 2 era naval poster February is celebrated as Black History Month. According to an article in NEA Today, published in February 2008.

It is reported that Black History Month was first celebrated in the U.S. in 1926 through the efforts of African American historian Carter G. Woodson.

African American literature has gone through many periods. At the Library of Congress web site you can listen to Slave Narratives or view original documents that are part of the African American Odyssey. At your hometown libraries you can experience legendary African American thinkers and writers, such as, Frederick Douglass, Ralph Ellison, Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, Richard Wright, Alice Walker, Alex Haley and so many more.
