Newcastle children now have twice the chance for therapy dog reading days

The Newcastle Public Library’s popular therapy dog reading program now has double the opportunity for young readers to spend time reading to a furry friend.

Ages 4 to 13 are invited to "Share a Story with Maggie" starting at 10 a.m. on each Tuesday in July, at the library, 705 NW 10th St. Dates are July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29,

And now the library has a new dog, Riley, who will be at the library beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursdays in July, on the 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st.

Parents can sign their child up for a time block to read a story out loud in a non-threatening environment to either dog. The goal is to help young readers build their confidence in their reading skills.

To register for a time to read, or for more information, visit the library or call 387-5076.
