The Newcastle Public Library invites local teens for a couple of hours in "Cyber Space” as it resumes its monthly series at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the library.

Those who attend have a chance to participate in favorites like video games, board games, craft projects and enjoy free food. There also will be a space for those needing to keep up on schoolwork to do so on a library computer and have access to homework and research help.

Newcastle telling tale of “No Ordinary Bird” at story time

The Newcastle Public Library is telling a story of “No Ordinary Bird” for children at an upcoming afterschool story time and craft, at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the library, 705 NW 10th St.

Children will hear the story about a special parrot named Alex, and afterward can do a craft program related to the story.

Learn the science of concussions with library program

With the high school sports season under way, a topic of conversation is concussions, especially those that are sports-related.

The Newcastle Public Library will provide resources to members of the community on the topic with the program The Truth about Sports Concussions, at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at the library, 705 NW 10th St.

Newcastle sets series of introductory computer classes throughout September

The Newcastle Public Library invites new computer users to a series of introductory computer classes throughout September at the library, 705 NW 10th St.

Classes are for ages 18 and up and will instruct in a variety of lessons for beginning computer users.

Midweek means story time for youngsters in Newcastle

Wednesday mornings are all about story time at the Newcastle Public Library, with upcoming preschool story time events set for 11 a.m. Sept. 3, 10, 17 and 24, at the library, 705 NW 10th St.

The morning features themed stories, songs, rhymes, activities and more, geared to preschool-age children.

Newcastle therapy dog reading dates altered

dogThe Newcastle Public Library’s popular therapy dog reading program continues throughout August and September, but dates have been changed slightly from what previously was taking place.

During August, four dogs – Riley, Sadie, Bubba and Maggie – will share duties at different times listening to children read. Dates and times are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Aug. 19 and 26.

Then in September, Sadie, Riley and Maggie will continue listening to readers in time slots from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each Tuesday of the month, on Sept. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
