Norman Public Library set to begin this year's Great Decisions Discussion Series

The Norman Public Library will once again host its Great Decisions Discussion Series in February and March, with four programs looking at current events issues from around the world.

The first program in the series is on Middle East Realignment, and takes place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in Rooms A and B of the library, 225 N. Webster Ave.

 

The featured speaker is Dr. Josh Landis, Director of the Center for Middle East Studies and Associate Professor of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Oklahoma and a frequent contributor on National Public Radio. He is a member of the School of International and Area Studies.

The program will begin with a video presentation produced by the Foreign Policy Association and will be followed by the guest speaker and a discussion forum. Refreshments will be served.

An optional Briefing Book which contains all the essays and reading material for the Great Decisions programs is available for purchase at the library’s Information Desk.

Future program dates, topics and speakers include:

Feb. 23, 6:30 p.m. – Mexico, with OU Professor Dr. Alan McPherson

March 1, 6:30 p.m. – Energy Geopolitics, featuring Jay Albert, Deputy Secretary of Energy for the State of Oklahoma.

March 15, 6:30 p.m. – Promoting Democracy, with OU Professor Dr. Charles Kenney.

The Great Decisions Program is sponsored locally by the Friends of the Norman Public Library.
