Walking tour looks at historic downtown Purcell
Get a first-hand look at the history of the City of Purcell with a guided walking tour of the historic parts of downtown, as part of the series of activities planned around Purcell Public Library’s “Key Ingredients: America by Food” exhibit.
The tour takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, with those interested meeting at the Purcell Public Library, 919 N. Ninth St., to take transportation.
Look back at the “Key Ingredients of McClain County”

The Purcell Public Library and Smithsonian Institution are celebrating the national history of food with the “Key Ingredients: America by Food” exhibit, on display at the library through March 3.
But part of the library’s activities with the exhibit has revolved around a look back at local history of food in Purcell and throughout McClain County.
The library takes a look back at those “Key Ingredients of McClain County History” at a program at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, in the Meeting Room of the library, 919 N. 9th St.

Movie looks at Purcell’s early Harvey House

The Harvey House Restaurant in Purcell was a staple in the early train depot in the town.
The restaurant was one of many throughout the early days in the Wild West, and was famous for its food, its class atmosphere and the refined young ladies chosen to serve customers.
The restaurants were remembered in a 1946 movie based on the Samuel Hopkins Adams novel, “The Harvey House Girls.” The Purcell Public Library will show the movie at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, in the Meeting Room of the library, 919 N. 9th St.
Get some new ideas at Purcell Cookbook-Recipe Swap

Find a new recipe while sharing some of your favorites at a Cookbook-Recipe Swap, offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Purcell Public Library, 919 N. 9th St.
The program is part of the library’s continuing series of events celebrating the “Key Ingredients: America by Food” exhibit that is at the library through March 3.

Learn the legend and enjoy the taste of the “Three Sisters Stew”

As part of its continuing series of themed programming, the Purcell Public Library will present a “Three Sisters Stew” Demonstration at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Meeting Room of the library, 919 N. Ninth St.
Melissa Church of Chickasaw Nation Nutritional Services will present the demonstration on how to make the traditional stew, which combines the “three sisters” – squash, corn and beans, a story that dates back far into the region’s past.
