The Shawnee Public Library’s Book Discussion Group gets a start on The Big Read for 2013, discussing the Tobias Wolff novel “Old School” at its next meeting, set for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in Community Rooms A and B of the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.
Dr. Bill Hagen, Professor of English at Oklahoma Baptist University, will be the special guest facilitator for this month’s discussion.
The group meets monthly to discuss a selected book, and the title is available at the library’s checkout desk a month before the meeting date.
“Old School” is the featured book in the seventh commemoration of The Big Read by the library and the Pioneer Library System. Activities in PLS communities throughout March and April will be centered around the book, culminating with a visit by the author in late April.
Wolff will make a public appearance at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at OBU’s Geiger Center, as well as a second speech at 7 p.m. that evening at Longfellow Middle School in Norman.
The Big Read is sponsored by The National Endowment for the Arts, Oklahoma Humanities Council, Norman Arts Council, University of Oklahoma Outreach, the Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation, the Pioneer Library Foundation and the Pioneer Library System.
Registration is not required to attend.
