Tecumseh hosts Babygarten™ Story Time series

BabygartenThe Tecumseh Public Library will resume its popular Babygarten™ Story Time series for another six-week session beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the library, 114 N. Broadway.

The story times are designed for ages 18 months and younger and their caregivers and feature rhymes, songs, a craft and playtime. Library Assistant Sue Walker leads the weekly programs

The Babygarten™ program runs for six-week sessions, and Walker said it’s important for participants to try to attend through the whole series if possible.

“The repetition in what we do is very important for the babies,” she said. “That repetition helps the babies to learn, helps their brains to grow.”

The series is an educational curriculum designed for children up to 18 months old and their caregivers. The interactive story time will feature rhymes, songs, a craft and playtime used to encourage pre-literacy skills in babies. It also aims to teach parents how and why to read to their babies.

Walker said that’s one of the most important aspects of the program, to give the attending caregivers skills and ideas to use with the young children when they’re at home, now and as they get a little older and start to really read.

“They’re around that child the most and are the most important person in developing their literacy,” Walker said.

This is the third year the library has presented the series, which is offered in four separate six-week sessions each year.

Registration is not required to take part.
