Computer classes scheduled in Noble Print

The Noble Public Library is offering hands-on computer classes on basic skills throughout September.

Classes will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursdays in the Coman Culbert Community Room of the library, 204 N. 5th St. The classes will be taught by Library Assistant Nancy Chowning.

This month’s classes include:

  • Sept. 2 - Basic Computer Skills: Using a mouse and keyboard and working with Microsoft Windows
  • Sept. 9 - Word Processing Basics: Opening and saving documents and manipulating text using Microsoft Word 2003 or 2007.
  • Sept. 16 - Internet Basics: Learn to access and search the Internet.
  • Sept. 23 – E-mail Basics: Learn to create and send e-mails. Set up a free email account if desired.

Registration is required to use one of the library’s computers, although anyone who brings their own portable computer may attend any class without signing up.

Homework Helpers offered in Noble Print

PencilsThe Homework Helpers tutoring service resumes Sept. 7 at the Noble Public Library, 204 N. Fifth St.

Homework Helpers is a free tutoring service supported by the library, Maguire Farm Store, First State Bank, and the Noble Public School System. Tutoring is offered 3:30 to 5 p.m. most Tuesdays and Thursdays at the library.

Students are expected to come prepared with what they need to work on (homework assignments, text books, spelling list) or an idea of what they need to work on. Typical school supplies like writing paper, pencils and crayons will be provided. 

Disruptive students may be asked to leave. 

Tutoring is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, except for Oct. 19 and 21, Nov. 11 and the week of Thanksgiving through Dec. 9. The program resumes Jan. 4, 2011.

Noble library workshop aims to stop Identity Theft Print

The Noble Public Library offers local residents tips for avoiding Identity Theft during a program at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the library, 204 N. Fifth St.

The program is part of the Pioneer Library System’s Smart Investing @ Your Library series, which continues with several programs this fall.

The program for adults will provide an overview of common identity theft practices, tools for preventing identity theft and specific steps for victims of these kinds of crimes to take in order to minimize damage.

The class will be taught by Cody Buchholz of Tinker Federal Credit Union.

Noble Friends to host book sale Print

The Friends of the Noble Public Library will have their annual book sale Aug. 6-8 at the library, 204 N. Fifth St.

The Friends’ members preview sale kicks off the weekend from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 6. Memberships to the group will be available for purchase.

The sale is open to the public Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday features a $5 bag sale, with customers able to fill a bag with books for $5.

Computer classes offered in Noble Print

The Noble Public Library, 204 N. 5th St., offers hands-on computer classes to teach basic computer skills from 10 a.m. to noon most Thursday mornings.

“Now is a great time to learn what to do with all those great summer vacation pictures,” said Nancy Chowning, instructor for the classes, which meet in the library’s Coman Culbert Community Room.

Registration is required for students who want to use one of the library’s computers. Registration for July classes began Monday, June 21. Each class must be registered separately. Students with their own laptop are welcome to bring it and join the class.
