Teens ages 12 – 17 will be locked in the Norman library overnight on Saturday, March 20, to solve a mystery associated with The Big Read: The Maltese Falcon of the Pioneer Library System. Permission forms signed by a parent or guardian must be submitted to Norman Public Library teen librarian Rebecca Spence by 8 p.m. Friday, March 5.
Forms may be picked up at the Information Desk in the library or click here to print out form . Space is limited and reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
“We will have a late dinner, a costume contest, and lots of games in addition to solving the mystery during the lock in,” Spence said. “Drop off will begin at 9 p.m. Saturday night and our security officers will lock the doors at 11 p.m. We’ll be locked in the library together until 7 a.m. Sunday morning.”
During the evening, teens will assume roles as characters in a literary whodunit, Poetic Justice, in which a group of cultured people from the 1920s have materialized in a modern apartment in London. H. G. Wells had been testing his novel's time machine at a soiree but he is discovered dead in the bathroom. Who killed him? Was it James Joyce, Isadora Duncan, T.S. Eliot, Mae West, or another of the visitors? Agatha Christie herself is present to help solve this crime.
According to Spence, the event is free but only teens who have library cards are eligible to attend. This is the second time the library has hosted an overnight program for teens. For more information about this event, contact Spence at 701-2620.
