The Shawnee Public Library, 101 N. Philadelphia, will introduce a new family program Thursday, September 24, at 10 a.m. The special program is for their parents or caregivers and children. Daycare centers may also be interested.
Children’s Center Staff from the Pioneer Library System will be present to introduce and explain a new program called Growing Like a Read. The presentation will be for the adults; but, librarians will be on hand to provide play activities and supervision for children who attend with their adults.
Growing Like a Read is a project of the Pioneer Library System, Inasmuch Foundation, and Tinker Federal Credit Union which will begin in September 2009 and continue through 2012. Growing Like a Read is designed to teach parents how to encourage their children’s early literacy skills, preparing them to learn how to read.
