The Tecumseh Public Library is targeting its youngest future readers with a program beginning next month that is new for the library and the Pioneer Library System.
The library will host a Babygarten™ storytime series, beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, and running each Tuesday at that time for six weeks at the library, 114 N. Broadway Ave.
The series is an educational curriculum designed for children up to 18 months old and their caregivers. The interactive storytime will feature rhymes, songs, a craft and playtime used to encourage pre-literacy skills in babies. It also aims to teach parents how and why to read to their babies.
Tecumseh Children’s Librarian Sue Walker will lead each week’s program.

The City of Tecumseh is ready for its annual Frontier Days Friday and Saturday, Aug. 27-28, and the Tecumseh Public Library has several activities planned as part of the celebration as well.
The library will host a family movie night at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, in the library auditorium. Popcorn and drinks will be served.
Saturday, the library will have a booth set up on front of the building during Frontier Days activities. There will be sand art projects for children and other information about the library available.
Also, the Friends of the Tecumseh Library’s annual book sale runs 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday inside the library.

The Friends of the Tecumseh Library will host their annual book sale Thursday through Saturday at the library, 114 N. Broadway Ave.
The event begins with an early sale 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Admission for the early sale is $5 and refreshments will be served. Anyone who joins the Friends of the Library can get in free to the early sale.
The sale continues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free both Friday and Saturday.
All proceeds of the sale go to the Friends of the Tecumseh Library, a non-profit organization which supports the library’s many programs and events
"Our book sale raises funds to benefit the Tecumseh Public Library and support the library's informational, educational and recreational endeavors," said Friends president Sandra Thompson.
The Friends support the library by funding adult, children, and teen programs. The organization has contributed to the Summer Reading Program, the annual Christmas Gala, Red Dirt Book Festival, D.A.R.E. Safety Day, and the Reading Is Fundamental book give-a-way which gives away more than10,000 books to area children, as well as purchasing supplies for craft classes and story times.

The Tecumseh Public Library invites area teens and their parents to learn about Brainfuse, an online tutoring and homework help program offered through one of the Pioneer Library System.
The training takes place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at the library, 114 N. Broadway Ave.
Brainfuse is an online tutoring program that is one of the online databases offered through the Pioneer Library System’s Web site. It offers homework help, tutoring, skill building and other resources for students.
Adri Edwards-Johnson, Virtual Library Manager for the Pioneer Library System, will teach the class.

The Tecumseh Public Library offers local residents tips for avoiding Identity Theft during a program at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the library, 114 N. Broadway Ave.
The program is part of the Pioneer Library System’s Smart Investing @ Your Library series, which continues with several programs this fall.
The program for adults will provide an overview of common identity theft practices, tools for preventing identity theft and specific steps for victims of these kinds of crimes to take in order to minimize damage.
The class will be taught by Cody Buchholz of Tinker Federal Credit Union.
He also will teach three other programs at Tecumseh in the fall series:

Psychology of Spending, which focuses on a person’s money personality and how that affects where the way they spend – 6 p.m. Sept. 21.

Teens and Money, a workshop on money management skills for teens. Two classes will be offered, one at 4 p.m. Oct. 13 for teens only, and another for adults at 6 p.m. Oct. 19.

Breezing Through the Holidays, a program focusing on avoiding the year-end credit crunch and what to do now to avoid getting in debt in the future – 6 p.m. Nov. 16.
